The holiday season is traditionally a time to recognize and thank those who provide us with services throughout the year. We hope you find these guidelines helpful to determine who and how much to tip.
The pandemic and related staffing shortages continue to have a significant impact on the service industry, so you may consider increasing gratuity amounts to reward those people who have assisted you this year.
Keep in mind that tipping amounts are influenced by the following factors:
- The quality, length, and frequency of service
- Your relationship with the service provider
- Where you live (amounts are usually higher in larger cities)
- Your budget
- The type of facility (deluxe vs. moderate)
- Regional customs
United States Postal Service rules state that mail carriers may accept small gifts – no more than $20 in value. Mail carriers may not accept cash, checks or gift cards.
While there are no hard and fast rules regarding an appropriate gratuity, we hope you will find these guidelines helpful.
Happy Holidays from JDJ team!
